Happy Monday Morning,
We would like to send a huge thank you out to Sam Conger and his team for putting together a great race in a new venue!
Many of you may have heard that we had some serious injuries at this race, I would like to take a moment to explain a little bit of what happened and an update on their condition. From my understanding (I wasn't actually at the race yet), Keith Jackson and Ben Marquis could smell propane in their trailer on Friday morning, they attempted to fix the leak unsuccessfully and were transferring the tank out of the trailer when it sparked and blew them both out of the trailer approximately 60 feet. Both were transported to local medical facility and then flown to the Denver burn hospital. As of Sunday morning, both were released from the hospital and were able to come back to the race and get all of their things to head home. From my understanding Keith is in good health and condition, Ben had some pretty severe burns on his leg(s) and had to have one skin graph surgery Saturday and will have to have another in approximately 8 days. Both are in great spirits and were cheering on their co-racers through the weekend. They are at home healing now and are getting ready for Jackson!
We would like to thank Sam and his crew as well as all of the racers and the Granby community for taking such quick action and getting Keith and Ben taken care of so well, I'm sure it made a huge affect on their recovery. For your reference, there has been a Spot Fund set up to help these two with medical bills and associated financial burden at this link. Our title sponsor, Pure Adrenaline will be matching whatever is raised through the SpotFund fundraiser for them and we want to send a huge THANK YOU out to them as well!!!
There was also a crash on the hill that brought the Search & Rescue/EMT's onto the hill on Saturday afternoon. The racer injured was transported to the hospital by ambulance, was treated and released without any major injuries. Thankfully he was bruised, battered and sore, but not broken! Again, thank you to the emergency staff on the hill, they did a fantastic job!
